Key take away

Total hip arthroplasty with a direct anterior approach (DAA) in lateral position found to be an efficient approach and provides a good short-term effect.

Background

This study was done to examine the temporary effects of total hip arthroplasty (THA) with a direct anterior approach.

Method

In this study, 30 patients (aged between 58 to 80 years) who had gone through total hip arthroplasty using the DAA were included. The results were determined by using a visual analogue scale (VAS), Harris scoring system, intraoperative blood loss, operation time, and hip radiographs.

Result

The results after a follow up for 12 to 20 months were assessed.

Conclusion

The total hip arthroplasty with a direct anterior approach in lateral position has an excellent short-term effect. It can help to achieve rapid recovery. It is a safe and efficient surgery.
