Background

A study was done to find the role of the SFA and orthodontics-first approach (OFA) on the signs and symptoms of TMD. Then, the comparison was made between the pre and postoperative treatment durations, between the two approaches. 

Method

In this study, 182 adult patients were considered who had undergone orthodontics-first approach and surgery-first approach for malocclusions treatment

Result

Surgical-orthodontic treatment using SFA can be an effective option dentofacial deformities treatment as it is comparatively a short-duration treatment and, it is effective on temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD). 


Conclusion

It was found that the SFA is comparatively better treatment option than the orthodontics-first approach.
