Key take away

The osteochondral autologous transfer is the most attractive surgical technique. However, it confers undesirable postoperative pain in the donor area. Thus, it is essential to develop new methods using biomaterials that could replace cartilage permanently. Therefore, the present study used a hydrogel implant that showed similar efficiency as the autologous osteochondral graft for treating knee joint focal cartilage lesions.

To find a treatment option to treat the knee joint focal cartilage lesion is very difficult. No randomized clinical trial involving Hydrogel to manage the knee pain was present to date. This analysis involved the assessment and comparison of outcomes of hydrogel implant with autologous osteochondral transplantation (AOT) to treat knee joint focal cartilage lesions.
