Key take away

In patients with duodenal ulcers, a combination of Tinidazole, Tetracycline, Bismuth, and Rabeprazole is highly efficient in H. pylori elimination.

Background

A trial was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of H. pylori elimination treatment using a four-drug combination of Tinidazole, Tetracycline, Bismuth, and Rabeprazole in people with duodenal ulcers.

Method

Subjects diagnosed with duodenal ulcers underwent gastrointestinal endoscopy, gastric mucosa biopsy for a rapid urease test, and histopathology to identify H. pylori bacteria both before and following therapy. A 14-day regimen of Tinidazole, Tetracycline, Bismuth, and Rabeprazole was given for  eliminating H. pylori.

Result

As per the intention to treat and per protocol analysis, the success rate for H. pylori elimination was 82.4% and 91.3%, respectively. Compared to females' success rate of 70.6%, males had an elimination rate of 96.0%.

Conclusion

Men had better H. pylori elimination outcomes than women when treated with a combination of Tinidazole, Tetracycline, Bismuth, and Rabeprazole.
