Key take away

For people with benign gallbladder diseases, particularly the elderly, laparoscopic cholecystectomy is an efficient and safe therapy.

Background

To explore the understanding and experience with laparoscopic cholecystectomy in people suffering from benign gallbladder disorders and to compare the outcomes as per three adult age groups (18-30 years, 31-45 years, and 46-60 years), a retrospective review was conducted.

Method

A total of 150 individuals (90 males, 60 females) who had elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy for benign gallbladder disease were reviewed retrospectively. Group A (n = 34, 18-30 years, mean age 24.60±3.14), Group B (n = 76, 31-45 years, mean age 38.99±8.06), and Group C (n = 40, 46-60 years, mean age 51.32±5.06) were created based on the age of the patients. To conduct laparoscopic cholecystectomy, a four-port method was used.

Result

Co-incidental biliary disorders were statistically significant in all three groups. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a promising option for the majority of people with acute cholecystectomy. The incidence of complications appears to be modest in laparoscopic cholecystectomy when compared to normal cholecystectomy.

Conclusion

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a promising treatment for elderly people with benign gallbladder illnesses. However, before and after surgery, surgeons should exercise prudence in these situations and must be aware of these problems.
