What's new?

In infertile men, supplementation with Vitamin D improves sperm parameters.

Vitamin D supplementation was linked to a substantial improvement in normal sperm morphology, progressive sperm motility, and sperm motility in infertile males, according to a systematic review and meta-analysis. Clarissa Tania et al. sought to assess the role of vitamin D in improving sperm parameters in infertility-affected males.

Electronic databases such as PubMed, Europe PMC, IRCT.ir, and ClinicalTrials.gov were explored for relevant literature searches on studies on the supplementation of vitamin D and sperm parameters for infertile men. Statistical analysis was done with the aid of Review Manager 5.4 software, and the risk of bias was evaluated using Risk of Bias version 2.

A total of 648 infertile males and five studies were incorporated. As found, vitamin D use might substantially enhance normal sperm morphology (mean difference 0.44, I2 = 0%), progressive sperm motility (mean difference 4.14, I2 = 89%), and total sperm motility (mean difference 4.96, I2 = 69%) in infertile males compared to placebo.

There were no appreciable differences between the two groups in terms of semen volume, sperm concentration, or total sperm count. In order to manage male infertility issues, vitamin D use should be taken into consideration.
