Rheumatoid arthritis support program can improve emotional well-being and quality of life in people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis.

In a study published in "Rheumatology", the rheumatoid arthritis support program (digital health program) was highly efficacious in enhancing the quality of life (QoL) and emotional wellbeing in rheumatoid arthritis patients. Researchers set out to evaluate how digital health program affected the emotional wellbeing and quality of life of rheumatoid arthritis-affected people in the real-world. Over the course of 16 weeks, this intervention study with a patient support program was delivered. Utilizing a convenient sampling technique, 30 volunteers with rheumatoid arthritis were recruited.

Patients under the age of 18, lactating/pregnant women, or who had hearing impairment were not included. Physiotherapy sessions, cognitive behavioural therapy counselling, dietary counselling, health and lifestyle coaching, symptom monitoring, illness awareness, and self-management instruction were some of the treatments that were encompassed in the program. In addition to quality of life questionnaire, the widely known WHO-5 wellbeing score was utilized to gauge subjective psychological well-being.

Patients' mean emotional wellbeing scores ranged from 10.13 at baseline to 18.13 at endline. The program had a 78.97% and a 41.18% beneficial effect on participants' emotional health and quality of life, respectively. Patients' mean quality of life scores ranged from 12.82 at baseline to 18.1 at endline. Following the rheumatoid arthritis patient care support program, emotional wellbeing scores and quality of life scores remarkably improved in the paired t-test, rising from 10.13 ± 4.65 to 18.13 ± 3.04 (improvement of 8.0 ± 1.61) and from 12.82 ± 2.87 to 18.1 ± 1.5 (improvement of 5.28 ± 1.37), respectively.

The rheumatoid arthritis support program had a positive impact on participants' emotional health and quality of life. Technology in the field of digital health has the ability to bridge the gap in the way that debilitating and chronic diseases like rheumatoid arthritis are treated.
