What's new?

Low dose cytokines could be considered a treatment of choice as cytokine therapy in combination with standard chronic inflammatory therapy was safe and effective in patients with chronic ulcers of lower limbs.

Venous leg ulcers (VLUs) refer to open lesions that occur between the knee and ankle joint in the presence of venous disease. The prevalence of chronic venous leg ulcers has increased from 55% to 75% in 10 years. Aragona SE et al. conducted this study to treat chronic vascular lesions according to a cyclic multiphase method. The method follows the instrumental and differential etiologic diagnosis of ulcers of the lower limbs.

The AIMED (Anti Inflammatory Regenerative Medicine), the operating model, follows the diagnostic phase and is organised into five interconnected stages. The parameters of mare evaluation, pH control, biofilm removal and prevention and infections are commenced according to the International Guidelines. Low-dose cytokine therapy is administrated to the patients to compare the inflammatory process. The evaluation of chronic skin lesions in these patients was done twice a week and treated according to the AIMED protocol. In this study, reduction of pain at 15 and 30 days, reduction of 50% of the injury at 30 days, characteristics of perilesional skin (oedema, erythema) and global profile of the patient were assessed as the clinical evaluation outcomes.  It was deduced that the so-called low dose cytokine therapy could change the previous therapeutic algorithms.
