What's new?

Compared to oral medications, Lidocaine medicated plaster aids in superior pain control and has better tolerability in people with postoperative neuropathic pain.

A real-world study depicted that Lidocaine 700 mg medicated plaster is efficacious, well-tolerated and improves pain-related impairments of daily living and quality of life when used to treat postoperative neuropathic pain in routine clinical practice settings. Michael A. Überall et al. aimed to compare the efficiency and tolerability of Lidocaine 700 mg medicated plaster with oral first-line medications.

Data were obtained from a retrospective, noninterventional 24-week cohort study that included patients with localized peripheral neuropathic pain who were resistant to at least one of the first-line oral medicines that had been advised. On 531 datasets of patients with postoperative neuropathic pain, a subgroup analysis was carried out.

Under Lidocaine medicated plaster, the pain alleviation, improvements in tolerability, and pain-related impairments of daily living and quality of life were all considerably greater when compared to oral first-line drugs. Owing to its lower risk of systemic adverse effects, greater treatment compliance, and superior treatment outcomes, Lidocaine medicated plaster was a viable therapy alternative to oral drugs for routine medical treatment of postsurgical neuropathic pain.
