What's new?

Clinicians may use ultra-low-dose CT protocol to get adequate image quality for scanning the patients experiencing endoscopic surgical treatment for a benign paranasal sinus disorder.

In this study, image quality and radiation dose connected with ultra-low dose CT protocol were assessed for the patients suffering from benign paranasal sinus disorder.

In this study, the head portion of Alderson RANDO phantom was scanned with standard-dose and five low-dose protocols. The image quality was examined by two radiologists for every protocol to find out the top ultra-low-dose protocols required for imaging the patients going through functional endoscopic surgery. Then, the ultra-low dose CT protocols were used for scanning. After that, four low dose scanning protocols were used for forty adult patients. The data was assessed using Cohen's kappa coefficient and descriptive statistics.

The lowest dose scan protocol was objectionable in the phantom study because of low-quality image. On the other side, both radiologists presented adequate image quality scores in support of ultra-low-dose scanning protocol in patient studies.

Table- Scan protocol and CT dose index

It is concluded that the ultra-low-dose CT protocol can offer good image quality for scanning the patients who are undergoing functional endoscopic surgery for the treatment of benign paranasal sinus disorder.
