What's new?

The use of green tea in healthy individuals is associated with a reduction in diastolic and systolic blood pressure.

According to the findings of a meta-analysis, green tea supplementation decreased systolic blood pressure by 2.99 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure by 0.95 mmHg in healthy individuals. Researchers sought to investigate the impact of green tea on blood pressure. The following electronic databases were thoroughly searched: ULAKBM, CINAHL, Cochrane Central, YÖK National Thesis Center, Medline/PubMed, Web of Science, and Science Direct.

The following keywords were used: "randomized controlled trial", "green tea", "Camellia sinensis," "EGCG", "blood pressure", "diastolic blood pressure", and "systolic blood pressure". With the aid of the Cochrane Collaboration risk-of-bias tool, two researchers assessed the risk of the qualifying studies. The meta-analysis incorporated nine trials, with a sample size of 680 (experimental: 345, control: 335). The mean age of volunteers in the intervention group and control group were 35.89 ± 8.52 and 36.48 ± 7.68 respectively.

All studies utilized the proper statistical analysis, had complete outcome data, and documented allocation randomization in detail.  The completion rate of green tea intake ranged from 85-100%.

Green tea was successful in minimizing both systolic and diastolic blood pressure in people, according to the combined findings of the research (Mean difference [MD]: -2.99, 95%; CI: -3.77 to -2.22; Z = 7.57; I2 = 0%, MD: -0.95, 95%; CI: -1.62 to -0.27; Z = 2.75; I2 = 0%). Among the research, there was no proof of publication bias. Hence, green tea is easily accessible, cheap, and yields promising metabolic benefits.
