In third-trimester pregnant women, the use of ginger compresses can dramatically minimize back pain.

According to a cross-sectional study published in the 'Bali Medical Journal,' ginger compresses can be regarded as a simple, safe, and efficient alternative therapy for reducing back pain conditions in third-trimester pregnant women. The researchers wanted to look into ginger's ability to compress lower back pain experienced during pregnancy.

Data concerning the pain severity reported by pregnant females in their third trimester were utilized. Using purposive sampling technique, 10 respondents were included. The Wilcoxon test was employed to measure the difference in the level of back pain in pregnant women prior to and post-application of ginger compress in their third trimester. Prior to the application of the ginger compress, moderate pain was reported by half of the respondents, totalling five respondents (50%). Following ginger compress, the majority of the respondents experienced mild pain, totalling eight respondents (80%). Following the ginger compress therapy, a reduction in pain severity was demonstrated.

Giving ginger compresses during third-trimester pregnancy is beneficial for the management of  back pain and can thus be utilized as a reference in midwifery care for pregnant females with back pain complaints.
