What's new?

Middle age women undergoing regular training of Aquagym and Zumba demonstrated improvements in bone health and reduction in loss of bone mass.

According to the reports of the ethical committee of the CEIC of the Madrid Community approved research, regular training of Aquagym and Zumba help to lessen the progressive bone deterioration within inactive middle-aged women.

A total of fifty healthy inactive women were randomized to control group (CG), low impact group (LIG) and high impact group (HIG). Participants of CG hired from Toledo and HIG/LIG from Madrid. A 12-week intervention program of Aquagym and Zumba (three 40 sessions per week) was completed by both LIG and HIG. The areal bone mineral density (aBMD) and bone mineral content (BMC) at total body less head (TBLH), right hip and lumbar spine and were measured using the dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA).

There were no significant difference observed in the BMC and aBMD between LIG and HIG. However, HIG and CG showed substantial differences in intertrochanter aBMD, hip aBMD, and femoral neck aBMD. The  LIG and CG showed significant differences in femoral neck aBMD. These findings indicate Zumba and Aquagym is a great approach to reduce deterioration of bone mass.
