The 2020 guidelines for gastrointestinal evaluation may be useful for the management of Iron Deficiency Anemia.

The official recommendations regarding the clinical management of iron deficiency anemia (IDA) was issued in August, 2020 by the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA).

The guideline along with the technical review underwent independent peer review and were distributed broadly during the 30-day open public comment period. The comments were gathered by the AGA staff and were carefully reviewed. The next update for these guidelines is estimated to be 3 years from its publication i.e. in 2023.

The AGA recommendations have been summarized in the following table:


These practice guidelines for the primary gastrointestinal assessment of IDA were formulated using the GRADE framework with an intent to support high-quality and utmost care.
