Gabapentin (gamma-aminobutyric acid analogue) can be a valuable component for relieving pain in C-section patients.

Considering the lack of investigations about the effectiveness of Gabapentin and NSAIDs in alleviating postoperative pain, this randomized clinical trial aimed to evaluate and compare the efficacy of Celecoxib and Gabapentin for the management of post-cesarean section pain.

Pregnant women who underwent elective C-sections (mean age: 27.4 ± 4.69 years) with spinal anesthesia at Mousavi Hospital, Iran in the year 2022 were included and divided into three groups:

• Group 1: Administered with Gabapentin 600 mg
• Group 2: Administered with Celecoxib 200 mg one hour before C-section surgery
• Group 3 (Control): No pain-relief therapy before the C-section surgery

Visual analog scale (VAS) was used to assess the pain levels in the recovery room and at 1, 6, 12, and 24 hours after the surgery. The one-way ANOVA and chi-squared statistical tests were used for inter-group comparisons.

No statistically significant variances were detected in the average levels of nausea or the need for supplementary medicine across the groups at any specified time intervals (p > 0.05). Compared to Celecoxib and the control group, the average VAS score in the Gabapentin group remained lesser (p < 0.05) all designated time points.

The intake of Gabapentin 600 mg, an hour before the surgery can considerably alleviate postoperative pain in women having elective C-sections. There were no notable variations in side effects among the groups.
