This study was aimed to find the efficiency and tolerability of 8% capsaicin patch in a treating peripheral neuropathic pain.

patch as a therapy for treating peripheral neuropathic pain is effective. It
was depicted that it is effective in reducing the pain and pain area in the
treatment of peripheral neuropathic pain.
This study was aimed to find the efficiency and tolerability
of 8% capsaicin patch in a treating peripheral neuropathic pain.
In this study, samples of 120 patients who were diagnosed
with peripheral neuropathic pain and who has taken therapy of 8% capsaicin
patch were considered. They were divided into groups according to cause and
origin of pain- postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). The evaluation was done according
to pain intensity (numerical rating scale), pain characteristics, size of
painful area and location. The patients were considered as responders to
treatment if the reduction in NRS was equivalent to or higher than 30%.
The pain area and the requirement for adjuvant analgesic along with the tolerability to therapy were determined at fifteen days, eight weeks and twelve weeks following the treatment with 8% capsaicin patch. Pain area reduced in 36.7% of patients and 18.3% decreased chronic analgesic treatment within 12 weeks following 8% capsaicin patch use.
Table: Decrease in basal
pain
The 8% capsaicin patch remedy for peripheral neuropathic
pain is found to be efficient as short-term and medium-term treatment. It is
helpful in both reducing the pain intensity and decreasing the painful area.
