A systematic review and meta-analysis of peer-reviewed studies was carried out to determine the prevalence of hearing loss symptoms in multiple sclerosis people.
Databases like Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, and Scopus were explored. The gray literature comprising conference abstracts, references of articles, and review studies were also assessed. Those studies that reported multiple sclerosis people with hearing loss were incorporated.
Out of 1875 articles, full texts of 89 articles were collected. Taking into consideration the exclusion and inclusion criteria, eight articles were chosen. Among 5187 multiple sclerosis population, the pooled prevalence of hearing loss in people having multiple sclerosis was found to be 1.1%.
Individuals with multiple sclerosis may experience hearing loss. Additional investigation with larger sample size and other forms of hearing loss is needed.
