The study aimed to assess the vitamin B supplementation role in lowering the symptoms and signs of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN).
Electronic databases such as Medline, Cochrane Library, and PubMed were searched for finding out appropriate studies. Overall, 14 randomized controlled trials with a pooled sample of 997 participants were included.
The pooled odds ratio values for dysesthesia and pain outcomes are illustrated in Table 1.
The weighted difference from the two studies was found to be 0.37 for the change in amplitude in electromyography of the sensory sural nerve conducive to intervention. The peak latency alterations were reported to be in favor of intervention. For the velocity outcome in favor of treatment, 2 studies depicted a weighted difference of 0.571. The electromyographic motor effects of tibial nerve were in contemplation of vitamin B supplementation contrary to the fibular nerve.
Various symptoms and signs of DPN may get improved by supplementing vitamin B.
