Key take away

Cetirizine and Theoritin are effective to treat adults suffering from allergic rhinitis and concomitant acute respiratory infections.

Background

This study was carried out to determine the impact of therapy utilizing modern antihistamines on the condition and severity of symptoms in people (age 18 to 65 years) with aggravation of allergic rhinitis triggered by plant pollen and development of acute respiratory viral infections.

Method

The study incorporated adults having a prior (at least one year ago) diagnosis of mild and moderate acute seasonal allergic rhinitis in the acute stage, who requested medical assistance for acute respiratory viral infections. In this observational study, every patient was given a treatment plan that included a medication from the pharmacological class of second-generation antihistamines (14 days course). Participants also received treatment for symptomatic acute respiratory virus infections as prescribed, which included antipyretic, antitussive, and nasal decongestants (as required).

Result

Based on the collected data, it was demonstrated that using modern antihistamine agents in persons with allergic rhinitis and acute respiratory virus infections has a significant therapeutic benefit. The usage of Theoritin is promising for treating acute respiratory virus infections in the context of allergic rhinitis since it offers an early therapeutic effect in relation to nasal and non-nasal symptoms of SAR/acute respiratory viral infections. Furthermore, it swiftly enhances quality of life of patients. Its antihistamine effect is comparable to Cetirizine.

Conclusion

For the management of individuals with seasonal allergic rhinitis exacerbations who also have acute respiratory virus infections, Cetirizine and Theoritin are valuable agents.
