This study was done to find if suture tape augmented broström procedure enables early accelerated rehabilitation.
From a recent study, it
was concluded that a Brostrom procedure augmented with suture tape permits the
early accelerated rehabilitation without any consequent malfunction.
This study was done to
find if suture tape augmented broström procedure enables early accelerated
rehabilitation.
In this retrospective
study, 93 patients who suffer from chronic lateral ankle instability were
selected. They were treated with Brostrom procedure augmented with a
suture-tape. All these patients were examined at 2, 6, and 12 weeks after the
surgery. The functional and demographics results as per satisfaction score,
visual analog scale (VAS), clinical measures and Foot and Ankle Disability
Index were recorded.
The mean FADI scores and VAS scores were improved after the surgery. Eighty-two patients were capable of completing a single-leg heel raise and single-leg hop at six weeks. The satisfaction scores at 12, 24, 36, and 48 months were 8.5, 9.8, 9.2, and 8.9, respectively. The demographic outcomes did not affect the results.
Table: FADI scores and
VAS scores
It was clearly observed
that the suture tape augmented Brostrom procedure allows early accelerated
rehabilitation.
