A systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to explore the accurate correlation between urticaria and rhinitis.
There is a substantial link between rhinitis and urticaria.
A systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to explore the accurate correlation between urticaria and rhinitis.
For the literature search, three databases were explored. Meta-analysis was conducted for estimating the prevalence and correlation between urticaria and rhinitis. For quality evaluation, utilization of the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was done. Pooled odds ratios (OR) with pooled prevalence and 95% confidence intervals were determined through random-effects models.
The occurrence of urticaria among individuals with rhinitis was 17.6%. In urticaria patients, the pooled prevalence of rhinitis was 31.3%, with rates of 31.6% for acute urticaria and 28.7% for chronic urticaria. A substantial link was seen between the prevalence of urticaria and rhinitis, indicated by an OR of 2.67. The diagnosis of rhinitis and urticaria relied on distinct criteria, potentially leading to misclassification errors.
Rhinitis and urticaria exhibit a significant association. Healthcare professionals should be aware of this association and take into consideration both skin and nasal symptoms when assessing patients.
