Laparoscopic adenomyomectomy, along with
levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) is an efficient new
surgical treatment for treating adenomyosis.
From a recent study, it was evaluated that the laparoscopic adenomyomectomy when combined with intraoperative replacement of LNG-IUS, is effective and safe in the treating adenomyosis.
In this study, fifty-two patients with adenomyosis were treated by laparoscopic adenomyomectomy in combination with LNG-IUS. The menstrual flow, uterine volume and visual analog scale were evaluated before and following the operation. In the meantime, adverse reactions due to LNG-IUS were verified.
No severe complications were observed throughout the
surgery or follow-up time. At 3, 12, and 24 months, the mean postoperative
volume of the uterus, visual analog scale and menstrual flow scores were
considerably reduced after the surgery as compared to scores before the
surgery. Amenorrhea was the most common adverse reaction.

effective rates in dysmenorrhea and clinical effectiveness rate of menorrhagia
It was concluded that the laparoscopic adenomyomectomy
when used in combination with LNG-IUS intraoperative replacement, is a new and
efficient surgery for the treatment of adenomyosis.
