What's new?

The topical application of Isoconazole nitrate cream can be an effective option to manage pain and itching due to otomycosis.

A novel prospective study published in the American Journal of Otolaryngology found Isoconazole nitrate cream to be an effective and easily applicable azole antifungal drug for otomycosis treatment.

The efficacy of topical isoconazole nitrate 1% cream in the treatment of otomycosis was investigated in 43 patients suffering from with itching, ear pain, sensation of ear fullness, and hearing loss. These patients were identified with unilateral otomycosis. The external ear canal was filled with isoconazole nitrate 1% cream following the process of aspiration and cleaning. The control assessments were accomplished on the 5, 10, 15, and 20 days of the treatment. The patients were asked about how many days the pain and itching entirely relieved following the use of the cream. Thereafter, the answers were noted.

Complete recovery was observed concerning pain and otoendoscopic findings in the initial control assessment of 23 out of 25 patients suffering from pain. In the secondary control assessment, a complete recovery of the remaining 2 patients was observed (100%, 25 patients). In a total of 35 patients with itching, the itching and otoendoscopic findings improved completely in different control examinations as shown in the following table:
