Tirbanibulin ointment has dual benefits in improving signs of skin ageing and treating non-hyperkeratotic actinic keratosis (AKs) on photodamaged skin.
A unique series of cases regarding the anti-ageing impact of Tirbanibulin ointment showed a decrease in mottled pigmentation (skin with patchy and irregular colours) and a "skin-brightening" effect, reported a study in Dermatology and Therapy.
Enrollment for the study took place from February to December 2023, and it involved patients who were looking for treatment for AKs in areas with sun damage. The effect of using Tirbanibulin 1% ointment was studied for its anti-ageing effects- improving skin texture and eliminating solar lentigos. Seven individuals with Olsen grade 1–2 AKs showed remarkable revitalizing results in the treated areas, indicating efficient skin lightening and disappearance of solar lentigines (or liver spots).
Tirbanibulin may improve skin ageing as a beneficial side effect when applied to chronically photodamaged skin with AKs. This preliminary observation warrants further investigation through real-life studies involving larger patient cohorts to elucidate the underlying mechanisms responsible for these aesthetically significant outcomes, Federica Li Pomi concluded.
