What's new?

In women with endometriosis, the use of Gestrinone appears to be safe.

According to the findings of a recent study, Gestrinone seems to be safe and might have some effectiveness advantages over Danazol, along with other therapeutic interventions for endometriosis management. The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to assess Gestrinone's efficacy and safety as a treatment for endometriosis.

Six electronic databases such as Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane CENTRAL (clinical trials), Embase, MEDLINE (ovid), and PubMed were explored. Alteration in dysmenorrhea, relief from discomfort, especially pelvic pain, and dyspareunia were the key endpoints. The secondary endpoints included pregnancy rate, hormone parameters, and adverse effects.

Out of 3269 references that were screened, a total of 16 studies along with 1286 women were included. In all studies, Gestrinone was compared to different pharmacological therapies over a 6-month period, including placebo, Danazol, Mifepristone tablets, Leuprolide acetate, and Quyu Jiedu Recipe.

Gestrinone reduced dysmenorrhea, pelvic discomfort, and morphologic ovarian response when compared to other medication therapies. As found, there was a rise in the pregnancy rate. With respect to the side effects, Gestrinone, when compared to other therapies, exhibited similar adverse events and raised the likelihood of seborrhea and acne. Due to the paucity of evidence, it is still unclear whether Gestrinone, Danazol, Leuprolide acetate, or Quyu Jiedu Recipe Chinese Medicine had any had any variation in effectiveness.

Limited available information indicates that Gestrinone appears to be safe and might be more effective than Danazol and other treatment strategies to treat chronic gynecological illness. However, given that the quality of the evidence presented is typically very low or ambiguous, this conclusion should be elucidated with care.
