What's new?

The GastroPanel test is beneficial for diagnosing atrophic gastritis of the corpus.

A systematic review and meta-analysis of studies on the diagnostic accuracy of a novel serological biomarker panel (GastroPanel) substantiated the accuracy of the GastroPanel test for diagnosing atrophic gastritis of corpus. Furthermore, it may be used in (i) screening for gastric cancer risk conditions (atrophic gastritis, Helicobacter pylori), (ii) Follow-up of atrophic gastritis people, and (iii) Non-invasive diagnosis of dyspeptic people,

Utilizing the principles of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols (PRISMA-P) and the QUADAS-2 quality assessment tool, the core electronic databases were extensively explored to find out relevant studies. For the meta-analysis, STATA software was used with atrophic gastritis of the corpus (atrophic gastritis of the corpus) as the endpoint.

The summary estimates of sensitivity and specificity, positive likelihood ratio, and negative likelihood ratio were estimated utilizing the random effect bivariate model (forest plots), and summary receiver operating characteristic (SROC) curves by the hierarchical SROC (HSROC) model. In total, 49 studies were found eligible, consisting of 22,597 people assessed by the GastroPanel test.

In the forest plots, bivariate boxplot, and HSROC, considerable heterogeneity was reported across the studies. The pooled sensitivity of GastroPanel in the diagnosis of atrophic gastritis of the corpus was 0.70 and pooled specificity was noted to be 0.93, with AUC=0.900 in HSROC. In Fagan's nomogram, the positive GastroPanel test anticipates atrophic gastritis of the corpus at the population level with likelihood of 72%.

The meta-regression and subgroup meta-analysis revealed publication year as the only meaningful source of heterogeneity. The study's geographic origin was of borderline significance. Hence, the GastroPanel test is valuable for the accurate diagnosis of atrophic gastritis of the corpus.
