What's new?

With average Pure tone audiometry (PTA) of 30.7 dB, people with psoriatic arthritis considerably show poor hearing functionality as compared to both normal and intermediate people.

On behalf of information from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) show a significantly higher risk of Hearing Impairment, partially leads to worsened psychiatric outcomes.

Using the data of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, a cross-sectional analysis was conducted with 10,747 patients ( ≥ 20 years old). Ordinal logistic regression and multivariable generalized linear models by adjusting medical and demographic comorbidities were used to assess the relationship between PsA with the above outcomes. The degree to which HI conciliated the PsA impact on mental health was evaluated by applying the structural equation models.

As compared to controls, PsA patients were more likely to describe hearing difficulties, depression, have 1.62 more poor mental health days than the prior month, and visit a mental health provider. The impact of PsA mediated by HI on days of poor mental health, seeing a mental healthcare provider, and depression found was 8.3%, 6.5% and 5.0%, respectively. These findings explain a significant association between PsA and HI.
