What's new?

Electromagnetic vacuum therapy for striae gravidarum offers painless treatment with no uneasiness or side effects, allowing immediate return to daily life without precautions, setting it apart from other treatments.

According to a retrospective study published in ‘The Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology’, the application of electromagnetic field under vacuum (V-EMF) proved to safe, effective and valid therapy for striae gravidarum (SG).

Striae gravidarum (SG) also called stretch marks is a set of striae that develop in different locations of the body, particularly on the abdomen. While various treatments exist, they aren't always fully effective and may come with side effects.

This study by Sheila Veronese and colleagues assessed the effectiveness of V-EMF therapy on abdominal SG in non-pregnant females. They conducted a retrospective study on the medical records of 26 women with abdominal SG who underwent V-EMF. The evaluation involved two separate 5-point Likert Scales: one for the estimation of patient satisfaction and another for physicians to evaluate the striae improvement. Furthermore, the associated side effects and the effect of sun exposure after the use of this therapy were also noted.

Out of all the treated women, only 2 rated their satisfaction level as Score III on the Likert Scale, while the rest described higher satisfaction levels. Similarly, just 1 physician rated striae improvement as Score III, with the others perceiving greater improvements. No discomfort or side effects were reported. The treated striae were prone to tan as it helps reactivate melanin, stated Dr Veronese.
