Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a systemic inflammatory disease affecting multiple joints in the body. It usually affects the joint linings and can impact other organs too. Although it's challenging to cope with the RA pain,  as sufferers employ various  medications to ease pain, but there are number of unpleasant side effects associate with  its use. As a result, it is important to look for other alternatives to ease the symptomps.

It has been found that consumption of omega-3 fatty acids may help cope up with the  along with its role in improving brain and overall body functions. Omega-3 fatty acids is obtained through diet including halibut, tuna, mackerel, and herring or through supplementation. According to the results of at least 10 studies involving people with RA who took omega-3s supplements have shown a reduction in joint pain and duration of morning joint stiffness. However, similar improvements did not occur in the control group.

In another study, researchers showed that 97 patients with RA were randomly received fish oil supplements and found that administering fish oil reduces pain after 24 to 36 weeks. The dose used in this study ranged from 1.6 to 7.1 g of omega-3s, as a daily dose.

Overall, these studies demonstrate that fish oil supplements may potentially reduce the need to use pain killers. However, many clinical studies examining omega-3 fatty acid supplements for arthritis are still ongoing, even now arthritis sufferers prefer to use fish oil supplements as an alternative to overcome this debilitating condition.
