What's new?

The state of the epileptological facility in the Russian Federation puts forward a lot of points under consideration.

A recently conducted survey of epileptologists working in parts of the Russian Federation portrayed the need of increasing the accessibility of medicines and examination approaches, an increase of stability in the work of the epileptological service, generation of integrated databases, and development of specialized epileptological centers and/or work offices for the epileptologists. V A Karlov et al. assessed the existing state of the epileptology facility in Russia with the help of a survey of epileptologists.

To solve the basis of the study, 63 epileptologists were presented with a questionnaire by the Russian League Against Epilepsy (RLAE), which was responded by 37 epileptologists (respondents) from 28 Russian regions. As found, 43% of respondents were dedicated towards the care of outpatients, 35% work in outpatient along with inpatient appointments, 22% work just in hospitals, and 24% of physicians were working in neurological departments. The most frequent patient routing options have been shown in the following table:

More than half of epileptologists worked with adults and children and 27% worked with psychiatric patients. The interaction between the departments of neurology and practical health care is performed in the form of discussions and trainings, as per 68% of epileptologists. Notably, 73% of the epileptologist had a keen interest towards interaction with the RLAE and 54% of the respondents managed socially-oriented schools for patients and their families. Epileptologists gave the viewpoint on the work of the epileptological service in the perspective of restructuring of the health care system.
