14-strain probiotic mixture has been found to be an effective supplement in reducing both chronic and episodic migraines.

The 14-strain probiotic mixture emerges as an efficient and useful supplement to alleviate migraine headaches within episodic and chronic migraineurs, as per a recently conducted trial by the faculties of Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences. The thought behind the analysis is the association between migraine and GI disorders and the probiotics by suppressing various pathways could help to control the migraine.

A total of 39 chronic and 40 episodic migraineurs obtained two capsules of a placebo, or multispecies probiotic and visual analogue scale (VAS) was implemented to measure the migraine severity. Frequency and duration of attacks, the number of abortive drugs consumed, and migraine days also recorded using the paper-based headache diaries. At baseline and end of the treatment, tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and serum C- reactive protein (CRP) were estimated.

The participants of the probiotic group with episodic migraine showed a significant decrease in the mean frequency and severity of migraine attacks than the placebo group after 10-week treatment. Episodic migraineurs received probiotic also exhibited a considerable decline in abortive drug usage per week whereas the placebo group showed no notable changes. The participants of the probiotic group with chronic migraine showed reduced mean frequency of migraine attacks after the 8-week intervention. Chronic migraineurs received probiotic also exhibited a notable reduction in abortive drug usage per day, duration and severity of attacks as compared to the placebo. However, no group displayed any significant differences were seen in the serum levels of inflammatory markers at the end of the study.

This implies that 14-strain probiotic mixture is an efficient supplement for both kinds of migraine. Future analysis is needed to validate the outcomes of this analysis.
