Patients undergoing surgery benefit from intravenous administration of Lidocaine, which also helps to lessen postoperative complications.
A study depicted that intravenous Lidocaine must be used during intraabdominal surgery owing to its high effectiveness. The purpose of this study was to identify the surgical procedures where intravenous Lidocaine is most beneficial. The terms "Postoperative pain", "Perioperative Lidocaine ", and "Intravenous Lidocaine" were used to search PubMed for relevant articles.
The use of intravenous Lidocaine was associated with an effective reduction in opioid dosages, postoperative pain intensity, length of postoperative bowel obstruction, hospital stays, and faster patient recovery. The most advantageous non-abdominal procedures were spinal, urological, and breast operations. According to the researchers, Lidocaine exhibits low toxicity. Only dosages many times greater than the recommended dosage result in negative consequences.
Owing to its high effectiveness, this local anesthetic should be employed during intraabdominal surgery. In order to more accurately assess the impact of intravenous Lidocaine in other procedures, more research on a broader patient population is required.
