What's new?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HOBT) coupled with aerobic exercise not only improves brain activity but also aids in reducing medication use and sensitivity to pain.

Evident from a data pulished in the Journal of Biomedicine & Pharmacotherapy, patients with fibromyalgia showed significant improvements when treated with HOBT and aerobic activities.

Chronic pain is considered among one of the most common clinical presentations and fibromyalgia is associated with significant widespread pain and tenderness along with other complaints such as allodynia and hyperalgesia.

In the context of HBOT, this technique has a significant importance in managing chronic pain disorders and fibromyalgia. The HBOT mechanism on which it initiates pain alleviation is decline in the synthesis of inflammatory mediators and glial cells.  This intervention influence mitochondrial mechanism and neuroplasticity, thereby aids in functional brain changes. Not only this, it also promotes synthesis of nitric oxide that aids on mitigating hyperalgesia. At the same time, aerobic exercises exert considerable antioxidant and anti-inflammatory impacts to reduce pain. All together proven to be very effective in managing fibromyalgia.
