Gynecologists can consider a combination of High-intensity focused ultrasound and levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system for dysmenorrhea.
Although
High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) had been known to provide short term
symptom improvement of dysmenorrhea, but, a combination of HIFU and levonorgestrel-releasing
intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) can be an effective long-term therapy for the
same, a study published in Journal of Computer assisted
Tomography ascertained.
This retrospective analysis was performed on 243 patients with acute
adenomyosis to examine the effectiveness of HIFU plus gonadotropin-releasing
hormone agonist or LNG-IUS in dysmenorrhea treatment. These patients were
divided into:
Following the therapy, a comparison of clinical
results was done at 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year.
A noteworthy difference in effective rates of dysmenorrhea relief after 12 months, but not 3 or 6 months was observed:
Also, H group had substantial differences in dysmenorrhea efficacy amongst patients of various ages or ablation rates at 1 year after the therapy.
