What's new?

Low-power laser therapy transforms postoperative care, augmenting smile makeovers and emotional well-being after gummy smile correction surgery.

A novel study posted in the ‘Brazilian Journal of Dentistry and Oral Radiology' discloses an exhilarating addition to Clinical Crown Lengthening (CCL) surgery for the correction of gummy smiles: Low-Power Laser (LPL) therapy. This therapy when used in the post-surgical phase alleviates inflammation, and bone regeneration, promotes wound healing and mitigates pain.

Gummy smiles, a common concern where excessive gum tissue mars the beauty of one's grin, have long troubled individuals seeking aesthetic perfection. Thanks to cutting-edge advancements, CCL surgery has emerged as a leading solution, comprising techniques, like gingivectomy/gingivoplasty and osteotomy/osteoplasty.

In this remarkable case report by Raimunda Nathiely Aguiar Albuquerque et al., a 22-year-old patient presented with a gummy smile. With short clinical crowns and bulky, misaligned gums overshadowing her upper incisors, she underwent CCL surgery on teeth 15 to 25. What set this procedure apart was the application of LPL during both the postoperative phase and recovery period.

Not only did the patient witness a harmonious transformation of her smile after LPL, marked by reduced gum exposure and increased tooth size, but her self-esteem soared to new heights. This innovative combination of surgery and laser therapy not only facilitated tissue regeneration and inflammation control but also significantly boosted the patient's emotional well-being.
