What's new?

Vitamin B2, Magnesium, Feverfew, Andrographis Paniculata (creat or green chiretta) and Coenzyme Q10 supplementation can be considered for Episodic Migraine.

Considering the results of a novel study published in ‘Journal of Clinical Medicine’, the intake of Vitamin B2, Magnesium, Feverfew, Andrographis Paniculata and Coenzyme Q10 for 3 months offered considerable improvement and had good tolerability in patients with Episodic Migraine Prophylaxis.

Michail Vikelis et al. examined the safety and efficacy of this combination supplement when used as a preventive treatment in episodic migraine.

This combination was given to 113 patients with episodic migraine with a follow-up of 3 months. Variation in migraine days per month from baseline (BSL) till third month of supplement intake (T3) was considered as primary endpoint. Variations in mean intensity of migraine and in days with acute migraine medicines usage were considered as secondary endpoints. The supplementation-responders were the patients with ≥50% reduction in monthly migraine days at T3 than BSL.

As found, there was a significant reduction in the number of migraine days (on an average) between BSL and T3 period. The days with highest headache intensity of >4/10 along with days using monthly acute headache medications decreased significantly. Overall, 56.6% patients were ranked as responders at T3. Noteworthy changes in Migraine Therapy Assessment questionnaire, Headache Impact Test-6, Migraine Disability Assessment questionnaire, and Migraine-Specific Quality-of-life questionnaire scores was also observed. No safety concerns were depicted.
