Clinicians may use
Chronic Otitis Media Questionnaire-12 to evaluate the health-related quality of
life in chronic otitis media patients.
From a recent study, it was found that the Chronic Otitis Media Questionnaire-12 (COMQ-12) can be used clinical tool to find the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of patients diagnosed with Chronic Otitis Media (COM). COM is connected to the quality of life deterioration after its symptoms, poorer work performance and social communication impairments. Chronic Otitis Media Questionnaire-12 (COMQ-12) was used for the assessment of HRQoL of COM in adult patients.
To evaluate the internal consistency of the questionnaire and carry out the validation process, COMQ-12 was used two times to 200 the patients diagnosed with COM and 31 healthy controls. Psychometric characteristics of the COMQ-12 were assessed. Statistical methods- Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Exploratory Factor Analysis were done to check the structure of the questionnaire. COMQ-12 illustrated good internal consistency. Coefficients related to test-retest reliability and Lin's Concordance tests were 0.83 and 0.95, respectively. Examination of the COMQ-12 showed a questionnaire structure with hearing loss related symptoms; impact on work, lifestyle, and health services and smelly discharge associated symptoms.

It was concluded that the
COMQ-12 showed high consistency. It can be used as an intent clinical tool to
analyze the HRQoL of COM patients.
