Fibromyalgia is a syndrome which is indicated by chronic widespread pain. It was first described more than 100 years ago with the first official diagnostic guidelines being published in 1990 by the American College of Rheumatology (ACR). Fifteen years later, the first treatment guidelines were published by the American Pain Society (APS). From then, many controversies have surrounded both diagnosis and management of fibromyalgia syndrome. Rheumatologists most often see these patients. This condition is often managed as part of the primary care and for its optimal management, the ambulatory care pharmacists too can furnish a crucial role.
