The WHO defines a team as "a set of two or more people
who interact dynamically, interdependently and adaptively towards a common and
valued objective which have been assigned specific functions to perform within
the limited lifespan of membership." The team for medicine practice is
formed of a number of healthcare proessionals; Physician/s, staff nurses,
pharmacist, other helping staff and it is mandatory for all the staff to work
in coordination. Teamwork can bring coordination and the physician must aware
his/ her team to work in a coordinated manner. The staff should also develop
self discipline towards the goal of the team i.e. Healthcare.
Effective teamwork in health-care delivery can have an
immediate and positive impact on patient safety. An efficient staff is a one
where the team members, including the patients, communicate with each other, as
well as merging their observations, expertise and decision-making
responsibilities to optimize patients’ care, known as coordination of staff. In
delivering health care, adequate teamwork can immediately and positively affect
patient safety and outcome. The need for active teams is increasing due to
increasing co-morbidities and growing complexity of specialization of care. As
it is the quality of healthcare which is deciding and driving factor in medical
practice and the time has changed. It is difficult for a doctor or a dentist or
any other health practitioner in whatsoever health organization would be able
to deliver quality care that satisfies his or her patients solely.
This evolution in health care and global demand for quality patient care necessitate parallel healthcare professional development with a great focus on patient-centered coordinated work. Coordinated work of the physicians with the staff can only achieve the demanded quality. As during coordination of team, a wide-based culture of values and principles are shared to achieve the desired objective. It will help to deliver the exceptional care to the patients and will work to build the trust among patients and boost the medical practice as quality brings goodwill and goodwill brings reputation. Strategies and practical skills should back the motivation of team members to achieve goals and overcome challenges.
Effective teamwork also globally recognized as an essential tool for constructing a more effective and patient-centered health care delivery system. Moreover at the times of medical emergencies or surgeries, the staff coordination is utmost important. The responsibilities of the healthcare professionals increase at such times as a faster relief is to be provided. The staff coordination can make the healthcare team "the knights with shining armors." The team proving itself efficient and able to resolve patients problem at such times will undoubtedly be influential. Thus staff coordination is a fruitful approach for better medicine practice.
